Hello All!

Hello all! It has been a while. This year has been busy for me. I am hoping to get back to posting here. I am continuing my photography, reading, and studying. I am sharing some quotes for a book called Looking for God in Harry Potter by John Granger, as well as sharing some Hogwarts house-themed portraits. Harry Potter books have always been controversial in Christian circles. So by sharing these quotes in my #Saturdayeveningwords posts on IG, I hope to have Christians rethink why they don't like Harry Potter. Below are the quotes from the first and second weeks.

“As images of God designed for life in Christ, all humans naturally resonate with stories that reflect the greatest story ever told - the story of God who became man...

...Because the Harry Potter books serve this purpose, they are excellent vehicles for parents wanting to share the Christian messages of love’s victory over death, of our relationship to God the Father through Christ, even of Christ’s two nature’s in a singular essence.”

“Reading them (Rowling’s books) myself has convinced me that the magic in Harry Potter is no more likely to encourage real-life witchcraft than time travel in science fiction novels encourages readers to seek passage to previous centuries. Loving families have much to celebrate in these stories and little, if anything, to fear.”

“The defining conflict of the series reflects every Christians battle with the flesh, the world, and the devil.”

“The answer these stories offer to the ultimate human problem - death - is always love or a symbol of Love himself, Jesus Christ.”

“Together and more obviously in their disagreements and separation, Harry’s friendships with Ron and Hermione transform him from lead to gold. Super and quicksilver are frequently called ‘the quarreling couple,’ an apt name for Ron and Hermione”

“Great writers in the English tradition use alchemy imagery because it helps connect with that place in our heart designed to respond to the Great Story and promise of our life in Christ. This is so much a part of us that, though we are largely immunized to this message by our culture and schooling, we respond with joy and longing to the imaginative shadows of if it in fiction. This is why, perhaps more than any other books of our time, the Harry Potter series baptizes the imagination, touches our heart, and fosters this longing within us. For from preparing a generation of candidates of New Age apostasy, these books have baptized the imagination of hundreds of millions and nourished the faith of readers who believe.”

I hope to write a couple of posts of my opinion and facts on Harry Potter, as well as the opinions and facts of others. constant vigilance and resistance to the regime of ideas (whose government and media authorities foster and codify this hatred) will free us of it. The Harry Potter books encourage readers to take a step back from the world and recognize what an unloving place it is.”

—-Ch. 4-6 in Looking for God in Harry Potter, J. Granger

I hope to write a couple of posts of my opinion and facts on Harry Potter, as well as the opinons and facts of others.

Cheers,

Chloe
