I realize that I have not posted a new blog post since the end of February. I have started the bulk of writing for my high school senior thesis and that has demanded all of my writing time...
Here is an essay on a piece of literature that is from the late Baroque through the Classical period. Jane Austin lived from 1775 to 1817, just 5 years after the Baroque period 'officially' ended. Jane never married and she died at the young age of 41. In her lifetime, she loved one man and her novels were influenced by her one love. Hope you enjoy this essay on one of her novels.

Why People Should Enjoy and Appreciate the Romance in Pride and Prejudice
Would you read a novel whose center was love? Would you read a novel that was centered around love but had Christian love in it as well? These characteristics are in the book Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen. The book is mostly centered around the two couples of lovers whose names are Mr. Bingley and Jane Bennett and Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. Though there be love present between these people, however not at first with Mr. Darcy and Lizzy, there was a huge status difference between them which, in some ways, made the love a hindrance. Also, it didn’t help that Lizzy and Jane’s mother kept talking to the suitors and how her daughters need to marry very advantageously. For the following few months, she kept talking of this. Though Mr. Darcy and Lizzy grow to love one another, they start out by loathing each other. It just gets worse when Mr. Darcy persuades Mr. Bingley to not marry Jane because she doesn’t act as she likes him. Lizzy confronts Mr. Darcy during his first proposal to her about what he did to her sister and his friend. She is furious, angry, and confused with him because he had the audacity to ask her to marry him and he is enraged because he was refused, humiliated, and disgusted by her. However, through the following weeks, both Lizzy and Mr. Darcy realize they truly love each other and Mr. Darcy persuades Mr. Bingley to marry Jane and performs other magnanimous deeds.
While it is very clear that this book has love, heartbreaks, and redemptions, not all people agree that this book is an amazing read and there is nothing to enjoy about it. Some say that people cannot and should not enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice, but others say that people should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice. People should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice for these three reasons; it is a novel well written, it demonstrates good character qualities, and it is a novel full of good love and beautiful romance.
The first reason why people should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice is that it is a novel well written. Most people, when reading a romance, will overlook the actual structure of the novel and just focus on the story. In some books, this may be fine, but in this book, the whole structure is well put together. It has beautiful, flowing passages and good dialogue when present. Also, though it is present in this story itself, there are sound, strong, and splendid morals in the author herself. Jane Austen grew up with wonderful morals placed in her life by her God-given parents. She does a fantastic job putting them into her writing.
The second reason why people should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice is that there are good character qualities in the book. There are lessons to be learned throughout the book. For example, there are lessons of pride, timidity, and prejudice. There are morals such as magnanimity, respect, forgiveness, honor, and hope. There is also proper manners throughout the book, especially in ballroom scenes.
The third and last reason why people should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice is that there are beautiful loves and romances woven into the novel. The four lovers are Mr. Darcy and Lizzy, and Mr. Bingley and Jane; two sisters and two friends. Though there was fighting and loathing and loving and forgiveness, each couple ended up married and the life long friends became related.
Given what is stated above, some people say you should not enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice. There is a heartbreak between Jane and Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy sort of betrays Mr. Bingley by saying stuff about Jane. Stuff such as she doesn’t love him and is indifferent. However, we see that Darcy soon realizes that he was wrong to assume this and brings them back together.
Another reason why people should not enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice in some peoples eyes is that there is so much pride and so many fights. Lizzy and Mr. Darcy are always going at each other with vengeance and loathing. However, they both end up married and love each other dearly. We see that Mr. Darcy is magnanimous and Lizzy is like a mother bird.
None of these reasons are adequate because we see redemption comes and all is made well.
People should enjoy and appreciate Pride and Prejudice because it is a novel well written, it has excellent character qualities, and it is a strong, long and well-matured love. This book is worth reading for lovers and big readers in general because you can get good qualities out of the book that applies to lovers, and wonderful morals that can apply to all readers.
